Mozzila firefox now will support millions of more deviced

Mozilla has announced that Firefox for Android will now support millions more devices, including the HTC Status, HTC ChaCha, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Motorola Fire XT and LG Optimus Q.

Till now, Firefox has only supported devices running on Android versions 2.2 and higher and housing ARMv7 processors, but starting today the browser officially supports number of other phones using ARMv6 processors.

The current update also brings integration with TalkBack, the Android screen reader as well as support for advanced accessibility features.

Here is the full change-log:

  • Support for ARMv6 phones with at least 800MHZ processor and minimum 512MB RAM
  • Android 4/4.1: hardware and software decoder support for h.264 video
  • Initial web app support
  • Jellybean support for Explore by Touch
  • Profile size reduction and IO improvements due to SafeBrowsing
  • Fixes: Holding backspace may delete text both in front of and behind the cursor, Android 4.2 instability

“At Mozilla, our mission is to bring the Web to as many people as we can. Given that roughly half of the nearly 500 million Android phones in use today run on ARMv6 architecture, this is an important step toward making the open Web free to all,” Mozilla noted in the official blog.
